April 1996 Press and Photo releases

Photo release STScI-PRC96-10; This Hubble Space Telescope image shows several blue, loop-shaped objects that actually are multiple images of the same galaxy. Photo release STScI-PRC96-11; Hubble Space Telescope has captured a view of a globular cluster called G1, a large, bright ball of light in the center of the photograph consisting of at least 300,000 old stars. Photo release STScI-PRC96-13a; This colorful image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows the collision of two gases near a dying star. Photo release STScI-PRC96-13b; These gigantic, tadpole-shaped objects are probably the result of a dying star's last gasps. Dubbed "cometary knots" because their glowing heads and gossamer tails resemble comets, the gaseous objects probably were formed during a star's final stages of life. Photo release STScI-PRC96-15; Hubble Space Telescope has peered deep into Uranus' atmosphere to see clear and hazy layers created by a mixture of gases. Using infrared filters, Hubble captured detailed features of three layers of Uranus' atmosphere. Photo release STScI-PRC96-16 features two images of Saturn, taken with Hubble's Wide Planetary Field Camera-2. The top image is a snapshot of Saturn with its rings barely visible and with its largest moon, Titan, casting a shadow on Saturn. The bottom image shows Saturn with its rings slightly tilted; the moon, Dione, is casting a long, thin shadow across the whole ring system due to the setting Sun on the ring plane. Photo release STScI-PRC96-17; The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has snapped a view of several star generations in the central region of the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51), a spiral region 23 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Canes Venatici (the Hunting Dogs).
