This collection consists of three record containers of materials related to Michael Bielefeld, and dated between 1982 and 2003. The bulk of the material relates to software development requirements and specifications for the Hubble Space Telescope. Some of the major topic highlights within the collection are Project Reference Database (PRD) monthly reviews, instrument science reports and handbooks, Project Data Base (PDB) documentation, and the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA).
Biographical/Administrative Notes
The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is a weak spot in the Earth’s magnetic field that stretches over South America and the southern Atlantic Ocean caused by changes in the motion of the Earth’s core and the tilt of the magnetic axis. The weaker magnetic field leads to an increase in energetic particles that can damage or interfere with low-Earth orbit satellites traveling through the area.
This collection is housed off-site with Johns Hopkins University. Requests for access to this material should be directed to the STScI Institutional Archive, institute_archive@stsci.edu.
